Hi, I have been playing the sax for about 7 years or so(I''m a
senior in high school) and we''re playing a piece in the jazz band that
requires the section to play flute. I''m doing just fine on the fingerings,
seeing as how only two fingerings are changed, but its producing a sound,
getting a good tone, and staying in the lower register thats a problem. If
anyone has any advice(maybe if you''ve been in the same position I am) then I
would be glad to take any of it [:)] . Thanks in advance!

try and drop your lower jaw (kinda like opening the
inside of your throat, like hot food in your mouth or the beginning of a yawn) ,
it helps improve tone quality, also warm up your flute, (cover all the keys,
which is C1,and breath/blow warm air into the flute) it helps to change from a
dull, hard, lifeless tone to a warm, rich, and flowing sound. try it![;)]

I would suggest starting with just the headjoint. It is
also helpful to do this using a mirror so that you can see your mouth position.
Try adjusting how much of the hole you are covering with your bottom lip. Kim
