Help - Cant play high E at all!

Post by Guenhwyvar »

I have started lessons and have been told to practice high E. I cant make the note at all though.

I can get a vague uneven whistle but not a proper note, and I can play normal E fine. Any tips?

I tighten my mouth and have tired blowing faster (although my flute teacher says this is a bad idea as you dont really need to blow harder.

Hi there,

have you read the other threads on 'high octave notes'?

It will still apply to you.

Can you get the third octave D first?

Just a tip that helped me.. don't forget the tongue, it plays a rather huge part in your tone (IMO). Think of rolling your tongue like a taco, like when you stick it out. Now it's not exactly like that but being aware of the change in your tone using simply your tongue, lips and the air you breath will give you a higher awareness of the pivotal part the tongue can play in your sound. Even without the flute, just you, your mouth and the air. Give it a shot, it seems to help me strengthen my embouchure .
