Unfocused low D on piccolo

So I bought this Yamaha YPC-61 on eBay and seems to be in pretty good shape but my lower notes particularly the low D seem unfocused. Now I'm not use to playing piccolo so it could be me but wondering if it sounds like a leaky pad. The pads are old but look ok. So is an unfocused note a symptom of a pad leak or beginner piccolo player?

If you bought it from ebay you should firstly arrange a good tech revision for your piccolo, before you can state whether it's a problem with your playing or with the instrument.

Looks like my tone is getting better as gain playing experience so I can safely say my tone problem was me.
