Hello flute community. I was not sure where to ask so I found this forum I hope you can help and looking forward to it.
My gf wants to start to play the chinesse bamboo flute D key. The one whole that is glued with the dimo she has got it before the connection ( the hole ) of the other part of the flute not the other side like the most of the flutes I saw is there a big difference?
And does it matter what glue to use and if yes wheres the difference? Ty for answers

The dimo membrane is applied to the second hole as shown in the photo. The player blows in the first hole.
The glue used to hold the dimo is called Ejiao. It is a water soluable glue made from garlic. It can be bought on Amazon or eBay. You can also make your own as described in this article.

While Er Jiao is the traditional glue used to adhere the Dimo, most people, including many of the Chinese players I know use Elmer's School Glue. Dilute it maybe with 1/4 water but play around with it to get a good consistency. Not too watery. I've seen others just use a glue stick and I've used it with no problem.
Er Jiao is an herb sold in most Chinese Herbal shops. It is made from the ass of the donkey. It is like a hard candy that you crack and dilute with water to get a paste. It's a pain in the butt. (pun intended) They do sell er jiao that's already diluted with an applicator which I get in Chinatown. Most people in American don't have a Chinatown or a place that sells Dizi supplies. So just play around with Elmer's. It works just as good.
