A#?

Post by evil_fluteplayer »

What's the fingering? I've come across it in a piece, in a group of eigth notes, surrounded by a B and then a C. So I thought a A# was equal to either a B or a C, because I remembered being told that once, but it just doesn't fit with the piece.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A# is the same as Bb. You must be thinking of B#, which is the same as a C.
Haha, this one is my favorite:

B#, that's what I meant, lol.

And I figured out why it wasn't sounding right- I forgot a recurring accidental!

Thanks for the help, though.

Do not think on A# as Bb. They may sound the same, but they are not the same notes, they are enharmonic respellings. If you take a theory class it will explane this.

For playing or sight reading music, if everytime you come across a A# you think Bb, you have to take time to convert it in your head. Now for slow pieces that is fine, but when you are flying by, with 32nd notes at >100 tempo, you will not have the time to convert it.

If I go into a lesson, and above an A# I have written: Bb, I will get is soooo much trouble!
