Open-holes and pads...

Does anybody here know if playing an open-hole flute that has plastic pads to fill the holes in affects the sound of the flute?

It shouldn't; changes the feel of the keys, though. Drives me nuts.

I used them when I started on my open-hole flute and it didn't change sound at all. When I took the plastic pads out is when the sound changed but that was simply because I accidentally wouldn't cover the whole hole. So no, it shouldn't change.
