Someone suggested a duet....

Post by SP22 »

As I have been researching flutes in order to purchase a new instrument for my daughter, I find myself half tempted to take up playing again.

Sadly I cannot afford private lessons, so what would be the most sensible way for me to try and get started again? Online courses? Self teaching?

I am open to suggestion, and welcome peoples experiences.

If you cannot afford steady lessons with a teacher, I suggest you take just a couple (maybe 2 or 3) to be sure you have not forgotten the basics of how to hold the flute, basic embouchure use, etc. And then self teach from there. This will obviously not turn you into a virtuoso, but it should certainly allow you to play sufficiently well to play duets with your daughter and the like.

I agree. I have a student come along on occasion who wants to simply brush up o the basics. You might want ton considre a local high school player (a strong player suggested by the director). This should not cost you very much, and will hopefully get you on the right track. Good luck!
