queenren wrote:Thanks for your suggestions! I've been working on it and it seems to "come and go". I believe I know how to do it, but it seems the problems stems from me not being consistent with my approach. For example, I may forget to use a faster air stream. But it's coming along (I guess...lol). I am very impatient, and I feel that I should be playing like a person that have been playing for 10 years...lol. Sometimes I think I got too late of a start (being 34).
Hi Your Majesty 8) ,
I recently picked my flute back up again also and i'm 41, I think it's great to run into someone of my vintage doing the same thing. I have had fun learning completely on my own and with some very wise folks here on this board and others, YouTube and Nina Perlove gives fantastic videos to also guide me. I did play in grade school but hardly ever took it seriously enough to advance but I always knew I could be good at it..if I ever wanted to be
Embouchure formation has been fun to learn about but it is pretty tricky. So i've found just experimenting with my whole mouth (ie tongue, lips ect.) has helped me find a great deal of variations. Rolling my flute inward has also helped but I find myself being inconsistent in my approach, so I am just enjoying the tone changes as I reacquaint myself with my instrument.

Well again, good to be in good company :D

Just some info for everyone: there are some very nice new videos out with Pahud in a series of masterclasses, technique and interview on a site called http://www.playwithapro.com.
I bought all of them and must say that there is a heck lot of information in all of them- and to my surprise he is a really great teacher as well, who can explain things clearly and elegant. One thing is that he is an amazing player, but he obviously likes to share his knowledge.
So I hope that this- along with all the other great recommendations- can help a bit.
Best of luck :D
