,I recently picked my flute back up again also and i'm 41, I think it's great to run into someone of my vintage doing the same thing. I have had fun learning completely on my own and with some very wise folks here on this board and others, YouTube and Nina Perlove gives fantastic videos to also guide me. I did play in grade school but hardly ever took it seriously enough to advance but I always knew I could be good at it..if I ever wanted to be
Embouchure formation has been fun to learn about but it is pretty tricky. So i've found just experimenting with my whole mouth (ie tongue, lips ect.) has helped me find a great deal of variations. Rolling my flute inward has also helped but I find myself being inconsistent in my approach, so I am just enjoying the tone changes as I reacquaint myself with my instrument.
