Air stream drying lips

Post by anpacaal »

I'm originally a euphoniumist, but I picked up flute a few months ago. I've been having a specific problem that I haven't seen anyone else experience. My air stream is making my lips go dry, and I have to lick them every minute or so. Is this a common problem for beginning flutists?

It is very common for beginning flutists to blow too much air too quickly and in turn, the result can be dry lips. Concentrate on focusing the air stream and conserving your air. Once you do that, the dry lips should begin to diminish.
