Breathy Sounds

Post by concertpianist16 »

I'm new to this site and I've been playing flute for about one year. When I play the sound is ok but it is super breathy sounding. What can I do to fix this?
I play:
Piano
Organ
Clarinet
Flute
Recorder
Penny Whistle
Harmonica
Jaw Harp
Cello
Violin
Guitar
Mandolin
Ukulele

It might be your flute or it might just be the way you are breathing. Try making the opening in your lips smaller as you play. That's just my guess :)

Practice inhaling. You might get light-headed, so be careful. Open your lips a bit more and breathe in DEEP as if you had been under water for way to long and were starving for air.

Go to YouTube & check out flute teaching videos by James Galway, Nina Perlove & Jennifer Cluff. That'll help you.
