So one of my biggest problems when I play is relaxing. More specifically my throat is probably the worst of it- it leads to vocalization sometimes I'm getting really frustrated because the WORST part is sometimes I can't hear myself doing it- which is another big problem. I can't afford to see a music therapist but I do need suggestions from anyone concerning this because I desperately need to get rid of this problem.
I think you are well on your way to conquering your problem. When I find my hands getting tense I play long tones and make sure I take very deep breaths and make sure I completely empty my lungs. It usually only takes a few minutes for my hands and wrists to realax. Also, I stand up to do this.
