Need help

Post by jlee745 »

We picked up my daughter's flute( that we had recently bought from a pawn shop) from the repair shop yesterday. They replaced some pads and corks. I played the flute 20 years ago and tried to play some of the notes I rememered and several would not sound right at all. This is where I need help cause I can't remember which key is what and I am going to sound really stupid trying to describe this . You know the little key with the cork under it, next to the last key on the body joint well when you press it and look at the first key on the back side of the body joint it is staying up even after you release the key(with cork under it). The key does not automatically go back up either. Is this normal and if not is it fixable. I am almost positive they replaced the cork under this key. I just wonder why they didn't notice it. They have had the flute twice this summer. I ask them to ck and fix everything on it and when I got it back the main thing I wanted them to ck out on the head joint they didn't so I had to send it back. So if yall say I need to take it back I will try another music store cause it took them 3 weeks each time to work on it and my daughter will start 6th grade next week and will need her flute. The other music store is 40 miles away but near my husband work. Can yall help me describe the issue so maybe I can write it down and he can just hand it to them with my note. I am afraid he won't describe the issue correctly. Sorry for being so long. This is just getting a little aggravating.

I found a finger placement chart online. It's the D#trill lever that is not springing back into place and leaving the back key open.

If I'm understanding you correctly, I believe it's because the spring has come out. I'm not exactly sure how to describe it, but at the back of that trill key, behind the rods, there's a thin rod which should be hooked on. If it is loose and has come out, then the key won't snap back to it's original position.

I wouldn't really recommend hooking it back on yourself because you could accidentally bend the rod. A qualified technician should be able to get it back in working condition in perhaps 5 minutes or under. Most probably won't even charge you for it. :)

Ok I see what your talking about. It is not hook on that little piece. What is the easiest way for my husband to explain it to them.

The best way would be to just tell them that the key doesn't return to its original position after being pressed and they'll know what's the problem immediately.
