I''ve been playing the flute for roughly 1 1/2 years.
I''ve had my first flute for that long and just recently my mother has
purchased another. The (new) flute is a used Gemeinhardt (spelling?). It is
silver plated (as far as I know), closed hole, C foot, but is of higher quality
than my first flute (which was purchased new). It was origanally selling for
$600 but was brought down to $245. My questions are. . .was this a bad idea to
purchase another flute so quickly? Is a Gemeinhardt worth it? Should I continue
to play both flutes? Also when I play my recently bought flute I don''t sound
as well as when I play my 1st one. Does anyone know why? Was I cheated or misled
somehow? I was with my mom when she bought it (I did play it).

That depends? What was your first flute? What condition
was it in? How much have you progressed as a player? Are you serious about
becoming a good player? Are you likely to play several more years? Without
knowing the answers, I would guess it was not the right thing to do. I say this
because having two student flutes doesn't make much sense in the long run. If
your first flute was so bad you couldn't play it, then buying a decent student
flute, if money restrictions prevented buying better makes it an acceptable
decision. $245 is pretty cheap and even $600 retail is just an entry level
instrument. Gemeinhardt makes a medium to good level student instrument so she
could have done worse. To get something significantly better would have invovled
triple the money at least, so that is a big difference in money. hope that
