How do I learn Jazz
I play Jazz and Latin Jazz so here are a few tips:
1. Listen a lot. I don't know how much exposure to Jazz you have had but
listening to masters is the best learning tool (people like Hubert Laws, Yusef
Lateff, James Newton, ...) 2. Learn some Jazz theory. A good book is "The Jazz
Theory Book" by Mark Levine 3. Keep studying classical flute. Although music
might be different, the technical aspects of playing the flute are the same for
both classical and Jazz and classical flute will give you a great foundation,
especially with quality of your tone and the finger dexterity. Listen, practice
and have fun. I love to just improvise often without any preset chord structure.
It helps build your own vocabulary and style.
