I'm I tunging right

I'm lost on tunging. I normly just cut the air off really fast for stuff like sixteenth notes and stuff but my band directer says the right way as to lightly poke the tip of your tung. Well I tryed that and it seems imposable to due while still blowing air as you will get a rasbary sound. Now one of the old retired band directers who is a flute player(my band directer is a sax player) says I should use the fat or mid part of my tung to cut off the air and I'm lost on what that means. How do I tung and how should I pratic

To articulate, it's pretty simple. Just say 'tuh' when you play, allowing the tip of your tongue to briefly make contact with the gum along the base of your upper teeth.
