hi all ~hope you can help my daughter and I

Post by artista »

My daughter is a beginner on flute but is progressing wonderfully. She wants to play the solo to "I talk to the wind" by King Crimson. I have the chords for guitar but ,,is there a site in which we can find the solo tabs for this and other songs? Can anyone listen to the song on youtube and tell us what notes they may be~ please?? :)

Not ambitious or anything, I guess.
I would say if she can just practice the speed and transitions
while maintaining the clarity and intonation, by the time
she gets that down, the notes would have already long ago
just kind of popped into her head.

I certainly hope that it does not requires a certain amount of pomposity to be an experienced flautist. Listen , of course in time a moderate practitioner can easily pick up song melodies . My daughter and i were next to the PC toying with that particular song and thought to ask a simple favor on this forum..

I'm not sure what you mean exactly, or if I should feel offended.
I'm not because I am an experienced forum user in general.
I used to be a King Crimson fan and the various incarnations
involving the core members, so I went on YouTube and listened,
as you suggested. There is something that sounds like oboe,
then at the end is a flute solo which demonstrated some ability
which is beyond what I could replicate. If your daughter can
copy that, then more power to her but I would be amazed
beyond astonishment and she needs her own YouTube channel.

Arista,

What you are asking for is a for transcription. There is not thing that difficult about anything I heard. However, it would take a little time to write out the whole form of the song. People pay good money for what you are asking for as a favor. Unless you can find someone that has already done it and willing to share it.

As far as the solo at the end, it is mostly flute licks. Not difficult for an average flute player that plays jazz, but a bit of a stretch for beginner. Does not men she cant learn it, it would help if she had the technique,

Every so often, I will do a transcription for free for members of the message board. I just do not have the time right now. However, there is hope. Go Here

http://www.saxsolos.com/

Email them. They may have the flute part already written out. If they do, it costs .50 cents a page. Well worth it!

Good luck to you and happy holidays.

Phineas~ "transcript" is exactly what i meant in my request. I hadn't considered the money aspect of it at all. Makes sense though. I/we are new here to the Fluteland forum and i made the mistake of expecting it to be much like other forums that i am a member of. One of which being a site where we share chords, songs and ideas on a daily basis. I would also add that due to conciseness I wasn't being definitive. We were trying to decipher the flute's run thru at the chorus only-my apologies for not being specific. Deciphering the whole songs transcript would be monumental and was not what we meant at all. Overall my real intention was to acquaint my daughter to the use of forums especially related to flute as an added learning tool. All that being said,,i will be able transcribe it myself.
jmdewey60~ I think what we had here was mis-communication. I may have misinterpreted your initial opening line 'Not ambitious or anything, I guess' No matter i should have taken the high road. My apologies.
Your responses combined with Phineas' made it all helpful. Thanks for the advice guys and have a great New Year 2011

Well, it can be like this. I do not think any one would have an issue with sharing progressions and lines from songs. It is just not done very often. However, we do frown upon people asking for copies of published material.

BTW, If I would have had something, I would have definitely passed it along. I just did not have anything written out for King Crimson.

Now I feel like a slacker and I'm going to have to give it a more serious try.

What you could try is finding the midi for it. I know I'm a bit late though.

Just google "I talk to the wind free midi online" or something like that. Get a free program like Noteworthy composer 2 (google it to find their page and download for free). Open the midi with Noteworthy and press F5 (it will start play the thing, you could also just print it out).

It's what I do all the time when I need songs. Flute range is a lot similar to singing, and it's easy to find the main line.

I can't explain this better, some translation troubles :)
