Guitar Chords with G Flute

Post by Fluterstu »

I hope someone can help me. I recently purchased two G flutes from Millyard-molem and I love them. I am trying to work out which guitar chords go with the tunes I normally play and have just discovered that Guitar Chords Am, G and F work when playing a tune in the key of E on a G Flute.

Does anyone have any idea how I work out tunes in G and D which includes most of my repertoire? Is there a table to easilly work this out?

Kind Regards
Stu

A quick way is to memorize the circle of fifths. Here is a good chart I found.

http://www.circleoffifths.com/

C - G - D - A - E - B - F# - D# for major keys
C - F - Bb - Eb - Ab - Db - Gb - Cb for Flat Keys

Always remember the the guitar player is playing 1 notch on the circle below you, and you are fingering 1 notch above the guitar player.

Keep in mind that no matter what instrument you are play in any key (Bb, Ed, F, D, G, etc...) the key of the instrument represents the fingering the will produce the note "C". If you play "Bb" on a Bb horn, it will sound like C. If you play Eb on an Eb horn, it will sound like "C". When you play(finger) "G" on your G flute, it sounds like a "C" on a piano, guitar..etc...

Hope this helps.
