The Pearl 665 was my workhorse flute for many years. The only thing I did not care for was the headjoint. If it would not have been stolen, I would have upgraded the headjoint by now.

I have always been fond of the Jupiter 711. IMHO, it is one of the most underrated flutes out there. I was pretty impressed with it. Just never got around to buying one.

The Yamaha flutes are OK, but the Pearl and the Jupiter will give you more bang for the buck.

In the end, you are just going to have to play on them to see which one you like the best. Your mileage may vary!

All of the flutes that you mention are great instruments. You'd do well with any of them. However, a flute is a very personal piece of equipment. We have different bodies, different playing styles and different preferences. The only way to find the the perfect flute for you is to try whatever is available to you.

Trying out flutes is a lot of fun. Take your teacher or an experienced adult player with you if you can. You might be surprised what you end up choosing. Good luck flute shopping.

I would suggest that you checkout Carolyn Nussbaum or Flute World.
They are both flute specialty houses whose staff have college music degrees.

Although I bought my camping flute (a Gemmy with silver body, plated keys, 12K gold springs) and my Alto Flute from wwbw, I've had to send both flutes back to them for adjustment when they were supposedly "new". My girlfriend had the same problem with her flute with them too.

You must have purchased your upgrade flute by now. Which one did you end up with? Do tell us about your buying and getting acquainted with the new flute experiences! :D
