Flutter tone for Bumblebee

Post by dddiam »

What is the best way to play the flutter tones (tremolos) in Flight of the Bumblebee?

I have heard performances where the tremolos sound just like a buzzing insect.

I do not think that the gargle tone sounds very good.

Breath tremolos are too slow, with a slow attack & decay (non-staccato).

I cannot pronounce a Spanish "R" trill. I have not gotten any tongue flutters to sound.

I am not trying for speed; I am a long way off from that. I just want to learn to play the piece very slowly.

Suggestions?

Did you check out youtube videos on the topic? :) I bet there's a way for you to train for the front R tonguing rather than the gargle kind haha.
