Help ... grade 6 exam tomorrow and my flute is playing
up! I think it just needs a service, but I''ve not got time. The tone has gone
rather fuzzy .... particularly after it''s been played for a little while.
However, all notes etc seem to be OK. Has anyone got any tips as to what I can
do to make it better just for the exam? Many thanks. Lucy

Flute problems!
If all the notes come out with a clean sound when you
test it and fuzzy sound happens only during playing, a flute "problem" can be
just that it needs cleaning, which affects the responsiveness of the flute. I
would just clean it well, from the inside and also, very carefully and gently,
clean the mouthpiece, which is most important (no solutions, just a bit of warm
water on your handkerchief).

i dunno if this contributes to the problem.. but just to
be safe, make sure your cap is screwed on tight enough. =)

Also, this has perhaps nothing to do with your problem,
but without playing, if you hear a sticky sound as you press/lift up on the
keys, you have "sticky pads." This is nothing to worry about at all, get a
dollar bill and place it beneath the key, press down, not too hard at all, and
pull the dollar from underneath the key. If you wish, cigarette paper seems to
work the best, but as a sixth grader, I don't think that would be appropriate
for you to have, so a dollar must due for now. Good luck on your test and have a
