Any suggestions welcome

Post by Morne »

Hi all.
Haven't posted in a while.

Here's the thing... After a hiatus from flute I am back and getting back into practice.
The problem I am trying to solve is... do all flute players really play Taffanel and Gaubert? I have been told that this is the flute bible...but I actually do not enjoy it (except number 4) and I prefer to play Reichert's exercises. My teacher also told me to play scales (over the entire range) and arpeggios and not to worry about T&G.
Does this make sense or am I the only one who feels like this?

Thanks in advance.

Yes. Generally all flutists play through T&G at some point in their careers. Most of them play it over and over again. T&G however is not a book for someone to start with and many MANY books exist to augment T&G. I would follow your teacher's advise and tackle T&G a bit later down the road.

Hi Fluteguy18,
Thanks for the message.
Yeah, you're right. I might be jumping in before I am ready. I think following his advice is best. I have played flute since 1992 (with some breaks in between) but I never tackled TG till now...

Thanks again :)
