I can''t play high C without
making a vibrating sound with my lips. The pressure is to much for me. My lips
need to close so small, so I can''t do it. I''ve been practicing for a few
weeks, i still can''t get it! Help... I''m desperate~~ I need to know all
the scales, plus the chromatic scale by the end of summer! My teacher is
starting to come again ( I paused for a while). I hope i get better!!!!! I
really wanted to join my middle school''s wind ensemble this year, now, i
don''t know if i can. [:((] PLease help!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe the experts here can give you
a good answer but from what you wrote it sounds like your embechure is too
tight. Try relaxing it for those last few high notes. Your talk of pressure and
vibrating sounds like your anxiety of trying to play that nasty C4 is making you
tight. I understand its not unusual for players to have trouble at the top until
they are in HS. With your dedication I am sure you will do well in ensemble,
good luck![:)]

Yeah for that high C! It's tricky,
and can be for awhile until you find exactly where it is on your flute. But
first of all remember to relax, that's very important. There's a few things
you can try to do that may help the note speak a little bit better and perhaps
not make your lips buzz. Try covering the hole on the lip plate a little bit
more by moving you bottom lip forward. Think about aiming the air stream up,
like towards the ceiling. Also, try opening your teeth which will open up your
oral cavity giving more space for the air to come out and resonant. Perhaps
don't try all 3 things all at once, try one at a time, if one works great! If
not try 2 things and on and on. Keep up the hard work though. Try hearing that
high pitch in your mind before you play it as well, it's amazing what thinking
about a pitch before you play can help. Best of luck!!
