Can I just buy a flute body?

Post by anth0ny_88 »

I currently have a Muramatsu EX, which has a solid silver head joint and silver-plated body, and am considering upgrading to a completely solid silver flute. Would it be possible to only buy the flute body and keep my current head joint?

It's possible, but rare to find the body only. You might find a used flute without the headjoint, but there are not many and your choices will be poor. A few of the top flute makers will make a flute for you with no headjoint but those are usually top-end flutes and you are probably looking at prices north of $10,000. Another person on this board had Brannen make a flute to fit their custom headjoint.

Your best bet is probably to just buy a complete flute and then sell your old one. If you stick with Muramatsu, the headjoint should be the same but if you still like yours better, you may be able to swap them, although it might require refitting the head to the new body and vice-versa.
