Bad tone and tiredness/fatigue

Post by Claiken »

are these 2 things related? they seem to be. and ive been very tired lately with worrying about finals and such (i also have a sleeping disorder which means im tired all teh time regardless of sleep - long story)

but im just curious are extreme fatigue and tiredness related to bad tone?

Tone production and fatigue are not directly connected, but if you're tired enough that you cannot focus on your sound, or your muscles won't perform as you need them to, it could certainly contribute. Keep in mind that some recital artists travel halfway around the globe, getting 4 hours of sleep (not counting the enormous effect of jetlag) and then play a with a beautiful sound.

I'll bet when they do sleep though that they have energy to spare, or at least enough to function. thats the thing, I force myself to function everyday, but some days (like today) are really bad, to the point of my concentration and tone suffering. maybe it is a muscle fatigue related thing, i wouldnt be suprised. have you heard of fibromyalgia? thats basically what i have....

thats why even though its the average time, i feel so proud when I get in my 2 full hours of practise. one day last week i did 3 hours. i know to most its nothing, but to me it felt so great. but now i feel like all that concentrated practise did nothing, because of days like today..... its almost like my brain knows but my fingers are lagging behind due to fatigue. luckily not everyday is this bad. today i practised about 1.5 hours but i dont feel it was productive at all.....

Ah... fibromyalgia. That explains a lot. If this is not an issue, I highly recommend contacting an individual by the name of Intermezzo411 on youtube. She has the same condition and she is a performance major located in California.

She is very friendly [well...generally   ], and I am sure that she would have no problem helping you.

really? thanks! I know there is no cure, but she may have ways of helping cope/having good practise times. i know a focused 5 minutes is better than a lousy half hour. but, maybe she does have some tips. ill have to check that out :D

i have actually fibromyalgias 'cousin' as i call it. CFS, but its basicllay the same condition, just she has more physical pain, while i have more fatigue. either way she has fatigue and hopefully she can help :)
