Saliva accumulation

Post by Equestre »

Accumulation of saliva in the mouth is really annoying, gets in the way, and can send notes off. Is there a way to prevent it? Thank you very much. :)

Hi! Welcome to the board! :D

I also have this problem and tried lots of things, but none seem to be able to eliminate the problem. For me, I always look for places in the music(rests and such) to give me an opportunity to swallow. Though of course, you'll eventually see music where there is absolutely no place for you to breathe. With music like that, there's usually no choice but to just hold it in. Eventually, you should get used to playing with saliva in your mouth.

One method I've been told that works is to drink water before practice and during practice itself. Basically, keep yourself hydrated. I find that it helps a little, but doesn't eliminate the problem.

I used to have that problem. I have started drinking more water all day and it seems to have improved dramatically for me. I no longer have an excessive saliva problem.

Don't just drink water before practice. Have lots all day long.
