Lost Tone Hole Plugs

Post by Aessina »

I am in total and utter freak-out mode.

My evil 10 year old brother thought it would be hilarious to take my flute out of its case. If that isn't bad enough, he removed all the tone hole plugs, and next week I'm going to a highly competitive band camp. How am I supposed to adjust to a new flute with a totally different mouthpiece AND get my fingers to cover the tone holes on my flute?

FWIW, I never used plugs when I switched from plateau to open holes. You may find that this is the impetus you need to make the switch. If you practice without them, you may find that you can adapt quicker than you think.

If not, many music stores and repair shops stock them. Call around and you may find a set. It shouldn't cost more than $10.

I didn't have plugs to cover the holes when I switched either and it took me all of.... 2-3 days to adjust. This is actually the way I recommend switching over (the sink or swim method).

I never used plugs either when I switched over in 8th grade (started playing flute in the 7th grade).
