Piccolo Repertoire

Post by PiccPlayer »

I'm looking to expand my piccolo sheetmusic library, and would like suggestions on music that is a staple of the literature or often comes up for competitions, auditions and the like. Any personal favorites are also welcome. I'm an advanced player, so technical difficulty is not a problem (though works focusing on musicality would be nice as well)....Feel free to suggest anything, even if there's lots of black on the page. Thanks in advance!

The Vivaldi concerti are nice.

There is also a Piccolo Practice Book by Trevor Wye and Patricia Morris that contains orchestral repertoire

Thank you for the suggestions. Unfortunately, I already have copies of the Vivaldi concerti, and I'm more interested in solo repertoire (with and without accompaniment) than orchestral works. Thank you again, though! :)

If you go to Christie Beard's webpage [piccolohq or something like that], you can find out TONS of standard picc stuff. Anything from music, to famous players, to care and selecting and instrument.

There is truly a plethora of information on there.

Also check out Fluteworld's web site. Unfortunately, it won't give you much more than a title and publisher, but it could be a place to start.

I like playing Samuel Adler's "Canto XIII" (unaccompanied piccolo solo)

and if you're up for lots of fun and a real challenge... there's always the Liebermann Piccolo Concerto wheeee! :D

Picc Repertoire

There is a nice Lowell Liebermann Picc concerto. Also I heard a competition where one contestant played the concerto in an Olden style. I'm not so sure of the composer. Vivaldi is nice, but I can understand how too much Baroque is a little monotonous. I did a masterclass with Gary Schocker wher I saw the music for his Picc. sonata. I hope this will be of help.
Best wishes in all musical, and non musical pursuits!

Thank you all for your suggestions. Fluteguy, that's an excellent list on that website. Thank you for pointing it out.

I know you've already gotten suggestions, but Mike Mower and Martin Amlin also have some very good piccolo pieces that I'd recommend looking into. I believe Persichetti also wrote a Parable for piccolo.

Thanks. I have the Mower and Persichetti on my list already, but I'll check for the Amlin as well.

"whistler and hes dog" is preety good for auditions and that stuff.
also, "Schezero, a midsummer night dream" is an absolutly amazing peice if you can pull it off.written by mendelson.
youl have to find a good player to play it with because both parts require a liitle work done on them.

cheers
