Learned a new note!

Post by Band_Geek »

Ive been practicing for about an hour up in my room on the piccolo and thanks to some great advice, I can play A natural on the second octave. For anybody who doesnt believe that playing the note in long notes and repeating works, your wrong. It is very good advice! Unfortunetly, Im hearing the note being played again and again in my head so I think now might be a good time to go to the store and buy some ear plugs. :?

just high A natural??? try playing ALL octaves on a piccolo! (at least all that it allows...) i recently heard that if u play long enough you can lose partially hearing in your right ear...so ear plugs and cotton balls are good things!!! :D

Sorry about that. I didnt mean A as in A right about the bar line. I meant the really really high A. Now, I dont have any problems because I got a new piccolo. It turns out the one that I got couldnt even get past high high B.

I'd like advice on playing the higher notes on piccolo. I feel really strong up to the third octave F. Starting on the third octave G I just don't have the control I'd like of either the dynamics or intonation.

I may be playing a solo in a couple of weeks that contains the third octave Bb. It's been awhile since I've played the piccolo much and am hoping that note won't sound horrid.

Thanks,
Nancy

I was told the exact same information in another thread I started. What you have to do is make your lips tighter, and blow faster. If you want a more in-depth description, look for a thread called "Blue Ridge Overture"

Where did you hear that? I sometimes lose hearing in my left ear.. but the first time that happened was not while playing piccolo. It happens often while playing now though, and it doesn't have to be a high note either.

i want a piccolo. im just borrowing one from a friend who owns a music shop. i want a wooden one..but i might join marching band next year..so i cant march witha wooden piccolo. anyone know any good metal/plastic piccolo's that have good sound quality. email if you have suggestions ( alexso.azn@gmail.com )

now back to topic. high A? that's pretty good, almost done will all the octaves...next step is to play them in tune...
