problem in tremolo

Post by amir »

Hi dear friends
i'm a flutist from iran, i have a big problem with tremolo technique , in fact i have a problem in pronouncing consecutive "R",and i cant say "RRRRRRR".
i'm not sure how to play this technique ,with "R" or by my lips,my teacher who is the best flute teacher in iran says that i should play it by lips, but i cant, i want to know are there flutists who will never be able to play this technique, i mean that is it possible that i'll never be able to do that, and if no how to solve it,any practice or somthing else?
thanks.

Hi Amir,

The tremolo can be done also using your throat. I prefer this technic rather than pronouncing "RRR", mostly when playing low notes.
You can do this closing your throat a little and letting it vibrate, promoting a trembling in the airstream. With some practice you can learn how to control the intensity and even the velocity of this effect.

Hi again Amir.

I think it might be exactly the way you told. My father-in-law speaks arabic fluently. I remember when he pronounced some words that he used his throat very strongly, making syllables very similar to what you described.

I really encourage you to practice and you certainly will find the proper way of doing it right in a matter of days ;-)

Always welcome Amir.

Take to account that the noise you hear is brought to your ears by your head bones. That means that maybe someone hearing you playing would not hear the noises you mentioned.

Ask someone to hear you practicing these tremolos so you have a better idea about the effect.

cheers

Or tape your practice sessions and listen for yourself. You should do that anyway.
