The microphone jack on newer Macs requires and Preamp. In other words, a regular non-powered mic will not work. The simpleest solution it to buy a USB microphone. There are several ways to make it work. However, by the time you spend the money, you could get another microphone. Something simple and cheap like this will do the trick.

I ran into the same issue.

Hmmm....

I once tried hooking my Zoom H2 to my macbook pro to use as an external mic in imovie. I couldn't get it to work properly. I was trying to shoot video while using the Zoom's mic. I was trying to audition for the Youtube Symphony (and after seeing the finalists and winners I probably would have done well). I didn't end up auditioning because I simply wasn't happy with the audio quality of my computer's built in microphone and it took too long to sync the video with a different audio track.

Any ideas for next time Phineas? Ironically I'm actually considering an application/audition tape in the future for something completely unrelated to flute but my flute playing would play into that a bit. (If you're curious, send me a PM, but don't LAUGH! It would only be a crapshoot kind of thing anyway). lol
