The Complete Guide To Flute and Piccolo 2nd edition

Post by mattyacht »

Hello All,

I purchased "The Complete Guide To Flute and Piccolo" 2nd Edition for $35.00. I happened to find two used copies of the 1st edition on a website for $135.00. Can anyone explain to me the reason for the price difference.

Thanks,

Mattyacht

the difference is probably that they are first editions. Often times, prices will go up because it is a first edition printing, and possibly because of who the original owner was [for example: a flute book owned by james galway would sell for more than a book owned by joe nobody]. This is sometimes because people will write in books of these sorts and put thier own notes on findings that they have noticed about their specific instrument.

Other than the fact that they could possibly be seen as collector's items, I wouldnt pay more than $20 for a used first edition in good condition. This is because the 1st edition is quite outdated.

No Problem! I havent had a chance to read the second edition yet [my teacher let me borrow her 1st edition] so let me know what you think about the piccolo stuff [the first edition is flute only].

As for being outdated [first versus second editions] it was mostly related to new innovations like metal alloys, spring materials, types of pads, scale, and other minor things. Most of the time, the instructions were still valid [although I am pretty sure that the contact information regarding flute companies for parts and supplies was most definately outdated].
