what is a "G disc"?

Most flutemakers call it a High-E facilitator. It's a disc inserted into the G key that makes it easier to play a High-E (E3). It's a cheaper alternative to a split-E mechanism. See the FAQ or search the board for High-E for a more lengthy discussion of the pros and cons.

I would suggest reading through the entire FAQ, as it seems that many of the questions you have are answered there. We're perfectly glad to answer any questions you may have that aren't answered by the FAQ, but I recommend starting there...There is A LOT of information consolidated in that thread.
