Mysterous Selmer Flute

Post by DivaricationOfMind »

So, a friend of mine in my school band plays this old selmer flute, and I have no idea what model it is! I'm extremely curious though, so I thought I might ask you guys.

It's sterling silver, says it in cursive on each part of the flute. All it says on the barrel is Selmer. No model numbers to be found anywhere on the flute.
The lipplate is gold and engraved and I am convinced it has a golden riser because the inner walls of the embrochure hole look golden. I'm also quite convinced it is handcut because of the significant overcutting on the headjoint. i've never seen that style of overcutting on a machine-cut head. It is quite similar to the EC embrochure cut but a bit more extreme as far as the overcutting goes. the hole is also a bit longer.

It has open-hole keys, Y-arms, B-foot joint, it's inline, and uses cork bumpers. It feels quite resistant when played, and mechanism is very nice and consistent from key to key. The scale is also very accurate, and there is little fluctuation in intonation when changing dynamics. It's also quite responsive.

But yeah, any ideas?

Sounds like the Omega series, but I am pretty sure they were marked "Omega". I will ask my dealer to see what he may know.

Back in the late 1960s - 1970s, Selmer was a company that made 3 different lines of flutes:
1 - Bundy - student models
2 - Signet - intermediate models (silver HJ or body, and plated keys)
3 - Selmer - their high end models (usually all silver). I don't rememeber if they had gold risers back then though.

I played on a Selmer for 3 years (8th - 10th grade) before I got my Haynes. Sorry I can't remember more.
