Hi,
I am new to this forum and am after some help!
I have a Pearl NC-96 flute, which I learnt to play on and achieved grade 8 on. The thing is the last time I played properly was over 10 years ago before joining the military so it has been sat abandoned for this time. I have now decided I want to start playing again as I miss it. I have been accepted into an orchestra also. The question is is it worth repairing and overhauling the flute or would I be better off buying a new one? I know for certain that it needs re-padding and cleaning at a minimum.
Thank you in advance for your replies
Karyn

If you are going to try out flutes, you should try out a bunch of different brands. There are a lot of good pro flutes out there.
Haynes, Powell, Pearl, Yamaha, Muramatsu, Sankyo, Brannen, Altus are a few.
Then there are the little known custom flute guys.
Tom Green, Emanual, Landall, Lopatin......
The list goes on and on and I know I have left a whole bunch off.
I personally like Murmatsu flutes. They work the best for me. But you should make your own decision.
If a new flute is too pricy, you might be able to find something used once you have tried them at a store if you can get to one.
Flute world sends them out 4 at a time if you have a good credit card.
www.fluteworld.com
www.flutes4sale.com
Also try
Used flutes .com
www.usedflutes.com
www.sideblown.com/sale.html
Though the last site has some really old ads that may not be any good anymore.
I hope that you make a good decision.
I personally would buy a newer flute because there are constantly improvements being made to the scale and new gizmos added.
I would love to have a C# trill and maybe a split E.
Good luck
