Gemeinhardt flutes?

Post by Danielflute »

I was wondering if this is a reliable brand. Should I get one of these or look into something else? Thanks. -Dan.

Salud!

It depends on your budget and aspirations, I suppose.

If you are looking to start out, they are solid instruments and serve many people well. I personally don't care for them that much and would recommend Yamaha, Pearl, and Armstrong as good starter flutes. But all of these brands make sturdy student model instruments.

If you are looking at the intermediate lines, they aren't too shabby, but depending on the model, I really think you could get a lot more bang for your buck if you went with the Yamaha 500 series, some of the Pearl intermediate flutes, Azumi, Lyric, Sonare or Amadeus.

If you are looking for a "pro" model, I wouldn't consider them. If you are going to invest in a truly upscale flute, look for something completely handmade like a Muramatsu, Miyazawa, Powell, Brannen, or the like.

So, even though my response has been on the negative side of neutral, they are all around good instruments. Depending on what you are wanting though, I might consider something else for comparison.

I agree with fluteguy18 as far as student flutes. I have had a few Armstrong flutes and they were good. I love the Yamaha flutes. Pearls have good reccomendations from many flute players.

Intermediate flutes I like Pearl and Yamaha.

Professional. I love my Muramatsu.

All of the flutes that he mentioned are great!

I don't care for Gemeindhardt myself. I have had a couple. But some people love them.
