help on our old flute

hi i have a old wooden flute
it was given to my step father from his uncle when he was 10 hes now 60...
it wasnt new then
it has 6 open holes and 8 covered
it has markings ////V on the keys and end of the tubes
where can i go 4 advise to who made it etc

The markings You describe, are a coding, a roman numeral given to the pieces of an instrument during small manual Series production, similar to a modern serial-number, in order to know which parts belong to which instrument during final assembly.
These markings are found on many old instruments coming from European or American producers, and unfortunately don't give any information about Brand or Maker of the flute.
I think, if You had some Photos of the instrument, You might find somebody to identify it much easier

Try searching the Dayton C. Miller Flute collection at the Library of Congress. They have photos and information about hundreds of old flutes.
