Hey ya'll, I'm curious if anyone else out there has this flute. I picked out this flute as my Christmas present from my parents back in 2001. We went into NYC for the day and went all over to all sorts of flute dealers and shops and I had my heart set on getting a Gemeinhardt because that's what I'd heard was a good brand. I was 16 and knew nothing (although been playing since age 11). Well, we walked into The Woodwind and Brasswind, which I believe has since closed their NYC location. I'm telling how I wanted a Gemeinhardt and I tried out a couple and the salesman tells me he thinks he knows an instrument I'd like, and he comes back with the Pearl PF-661. All I did was play a B flat and I fell in LOVE! Now, again, I was 16 and my current and only flute was some nickle plated thing by Alpine. I don't know if the salesman was just trying to get rid of the Pearl, because I believe it was being discontinued right then. It has a silver plated body with a solid silver head. It is open holed yet has an off set G, which is great for me and my short fingers. I love the low B foot, though, I don't know if it is the generally better quality of the Pearl compared to my starter flute, but I just love playing lower notes on the Pearl, they sound awesome (relatively, at least...I am not a very great player - well certainly not as good as I was when I got the flute). I cherish this flute like no other thing I own. Since I have owned it, I have only let one other person play it - and that was within the last couple of years, she was a roommate of mine in college and was not only a phenomenal flute player, but was studying to become a music teacher! Nowadays, I don't play at all. I did have the chance to play a Yamaha similar in design to my Pearl (I had a misguided stint in the Army Reserves playing in the band, and the flute I was provided to play was the Yamaha), and honestly, although the Yamaha was certainly a great instrument, I don't really feel it had the warmth that my Pearl does. Lol - sorry for my ranting, but even though I haven't played in what seems like forever, and haven't played well for even longer...I just wanted to see if there was anyone else out there who has a great deal of passion for their Pearl!

I've been trying out different flutes lately, and I actually didn't like the Pearl that I tried. I thought it sounded too airy. Maybe it was a different model than yours. Glad you are happy with yours though

Gotcha. Once I realize that things are starting to ramble, I just stop paying attention. I personally like Pearl's mechanism but their flutes don't work for me. They're good flutes, but not a good match for my playing.kailur wrote:fluteguy18 wrote:1. Lather

I was just expressing how much I like my Pearl and was curious if there was anyone else who has a Pearl that likes it as much as I do mine. I just tend to ramble.
