Repair Recommendations Needed

Post by Kaylyn »

Hi all,

I recently purchased a Prima Sankyo Silversonic (solid head, body, foot, c foot, y arms, inline g, plated mechanism). I LOVE IT but being from the mid-80's it really needs some TLC. The only repair place where I live is a general band instrument store that also does repairs and I have had awful luck with them in the past. I can't afford to pay the lady who has been recommended to me because she's $1200 and that's what I paid for this flute in the first place.

I was just wondering if anyone has any reputable repair (COA, repad) places that don't charge an arm and a leg? I have seen such a wide variation in pricing.

Thank you in advance!!!

Congratulations on your new Sankyo!!! Welcome to the "I Love My Sankyo" club!

I don't know how much they charge for a repad, but Miles Ahead Music is where I bought my Sankyo, which is from the early 1980's. They overhauled the flute and put in the Schmidt pads, and did a great job, so I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. Just not sure about the $$$$, which I know can add up quickly when having work done.

Good luck! Enjoy your flute!

I know, right? I played one, once, at a local instrument fair and haven't been able to get that flute out of my head for years. This one was for sale and BAM, dream come true. Or it will be when it's all shined up and and repadded. :)

Thanks for the information!
