Altus Headjoint

Post by kemplr »

Hi All,

Just wondering if you can help me out. I purchased an Altus classic headjoint (925 solid silver) off the net. Took a gamble but I'm happy with it. On the side of the lip plate it is engraved with R AU 9ct R. Does anyone know what this means? Is it referring to the riser?

Also it does not have a serial number on it. Is this normal? It has the word Altus on it and marked 925. I purchased it with a pearl body.

Many Thanks, Lauren

Not sure what R AU means but 9ct R means the Riser (embouchure chimney lining) is 9ct gold.

HJs always have the % of silver content marked. .925 simply means it's of sterling silver (or 92.5% solid silver) construct. Not sure about S/N, so far my stock standard headjoints do not have S/N. Some higher end handmade ones do eg Albert Cooper or even Altus ... which leads to your Q.
Many Thanks, Lauren
Congratulations, it sounds like a lovely hj.

Cheers, Thanks for your reply.

When I purchased it the seller had described it as just solid silver- so I was surprised when I saw the engraving R Au 9ct R. The Au is the metal name for gold. So it's a lovely surprise that the riser is gold!

Actually perhaps I should keep silent. And let the sages speak.

If you have any questions about it you could always give Liz at Altus a call. I'm sure she would be able to tell you anything you wanted to know.
