Takumi Flute

Post by jmight »

Hey all!

I recently acquired a flute of the brand "Takumi." All I know is that one of the senior craftsmen of this company worked for Miyazawa, and Muramatsu as well before founding Altus Flutes. Right now it's in the repair shop getting refurbished, and I know it's handmade, solid silver. That's about it, I think the brand died in the '70's, which is their best guess of when this flute was made. It's a Takumi T450. Anyone heard of/seen these flutes? Know any additional information? What it's worth?

Thanks!

Well for those of you interested, a flute professional has confirmed that it is solid silver, and handmade. Initial appraisal value is around $5000 or more. I'm hoping to take it in to David Straubinger's shop, and get a second opinion. Sounds like I found some buried treasure!

About Takumi flutes = I bought my Takumi T-450E in 1980 (paid for in German Marks). It is solid silver, half-handmade. It was No. 0462 - probably towards the end of production by Takumi. I have played ever since and am very happy with it. I have never considered selling it and am interested to see it could be $5,000 value in 2012. I thought maybe some info from first-hand might be of interest.
