Silversonic and other Sankyo flutes

Post by Mywing »

Hi all
Days ago I tried a Sankyo Silversonic and I was thrilled. So I decided to look for one to buy.
I found a pair at an attractive price but when searching I found two or three other Sankyo models apparently very similar and probably built more recently.
The models are Artist, CF301, CF501 and PA401 ... (the D and SR Handmade are out of my money ...)
Could the Sankyo experts show me the differences between the models that I mentioned respect to Silversonic, and advise on the instrument that having Silversonic's sound characteristics is the most robust and reliable, and which maintains a long time adjustments?
I'm a jazz musician, and I do not go very gently on the keys...

The Artist is one step up from the Silversonic in that it has a solid silver mechanism as well. The Silversonic is solid silver but has a plated mechanism.

The CF 301 is a newer version of the Silversonic and should have the same specs.

The CF 501 is one step up from the CF 401 (formerly Artist) in that it has 10k white gold springs.

Not sure on the "PA" part of the last one you listed, but the Artist is the old version of the current CF 401.

Here's a breakdown:
Old Etude = New 201
Old Silversonic = New 301
Old Artist = New 401

From what I have read and heard they are all reliable flutes and play in adjustment well. I personally play an older Silversonic and have had it overhauled, but have only had to have it adjusted once in two years since overhaul. I have been very happy with my flute and think it sounds great. They are especially good/robust in the lower registers but all notes play with ease.

If you're not needing a solid silver flute for any reason but still want a Sankyo, you might do well in looking at a 201. That one has a solid headjoint but plated body and mechanism. The price on those is usually the lowest.

Good luck!!
