I have an adopted Chinese sister and we go to China Town in Boston to shop and have some real Chinese food (not the Americanized kind at local Chinese food places). So we were walking down a street and I heard an amazing bamboo flute. I looked around and couldn't find the flutist but the sound filled the whole street. I soon saw the man playing in a room two stories up with an open window. It was amazing how the sound carried.
To make a long story short I have many bamboo flute CDs but have never heard someone play it in person. So I wen't out and bought a very inexspensive one. But I am confused by the holes and the notes confuse me. Does anyone play the the bamboo flute or know where I can get an instruction book or song book?

I'm not sure if this is what you purchased, but maybe this link will help:
http://yellowbellmusic.com/instruments/ ... d/dizi.php
There is a 7th hole on this flute (between the mouth hole and first finger) that is supposed to be covered with rice paper.
It's called a Dizi... so if this looks right, just do a Google search. There was a lot of info about it out there.
Here is a link to an instructional book for the Dizi:

Hope this helps!
