Hi folks....new here, and new to the flute.
We have a chance to purchase one of the following:
A brand new YFL262 for $899.00 Canadian Funds,
OR
A used (like new) fully serviced YFL471 for $999.99 Canadian funds.
Which would you purchase? (I know nothing about flutes.....my kid is starting to play.)
Both come from the same music store. The guy I spoke to said he would buy the YFL471 if it were him.
Any thoughts?
Thank You!!!!

Well, I think you got good advice. New the YFL471 sold for a bit over $2000, so $999 is a reasonable price used and in good condition. The YFL471 is solid silver while the YFL262 is plated. Plated flutes sometimes become pitted if the plating deteriorates while solid silver can always be cleaned and polished during servicing. Otherwise, there is not a great difference between them. I would ask about the warranty YFL471 and compare the duration.

Re: Yamaha flutes: YFL262 vs YFL471
Warranty is 3 months since it is a used instrument. Full retail here was $2599 Canadian. Plus, we have 30 days to return it if we don't like it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
I can't seem to find very much Info regarding the YFL471 online. Is it an older flute?
Thanks!

Yes, it has been replaced by (I think) the 472. All the Yamaha 400 series are basically the same except for very minor design differences, options (i.e. open vs closed holes, E-facilitator, offset G, etc.).
