What popular music has prominent flute leads?

Post by pnechay »

This info has been hard to find. Some songs are California Dreaming by the Mamas and Papas, Margarittaville by Jimmy Buffett and Can't you See by Marshall Tucker band and of course everyone knows Jethro Tull. I have not been able to get a good list. If anything sticks out in your minds please list so I can research these songs for use in a band. Peter

Um. I think that Led zepplin had some flute in stairway to heaven. I think that Jethro Tull is the only one that uses it on a regularly. Ian Anderson said that the reason he started the flute is because there was no compition for the hardest flute rocker.
Huh and who are you?

Fiona Apple uses some flute in a couple of songs.

Tower of Power had a pretty decent hit with "Sparkling in the Sand" back in the 70's. Flute was played by Lenny Pickett, who now heads the Saturday Night Live band.

Also, in addition to "Colour My World", there are many other tracks from Chicago 2 which include much admirable flute work by Walt Parazaider (though admittedly not the radio hits). Aside from Chicago 2, the flute was also featured prominently on their hit "Baby What A Big Surprise".

I like the little song cycle on the Chicago II album (which includes Colour My World). :D

Chicago is one of my all time favorite albums to play in its entireity. I'm still psyched that they are playing big chunks of it intact in their live set these days.

aside...

As a Star Wars fan... I think the Yoda quote is actually...

"Do, or do not. There is no Try."

Zounds! My quote source was...WRONG?!? Did he phrase it differently in more than one film? I'm not a deep Star Wars scholar, it's just a good thought.

Unfotunately it was. I spent all of Saturday night watching the entire Star Wars saga through with some friends, and GKevinK is quite right.
