leessseee.. the one I went past was off West Plano Pkwy I believe..
one of the side roads there to the left if you're west bound..
I was a bit turned around and had to make a side trip to get turned back to
a road that would go where I wanted.
Of course, that being said, I'm not sure I could find it again without
calling for directions.. after all, I had been awake for well over 24 hours
by then.
I gotta stop doin that..

Yep... sounds like 'tis the one. Except I come from the west so it's a side road to the right (south) and very close to DMN complex (I think that's what that huge place is). Of course, now I'm curious as to why you not dare go thereMark wrote:leessseee.. the one I went past was off West Plano Pkwy I believe..![]()

Because should I wander in there... I shall buy a new flute of course...

And that would be baaaadd for the ole budget right now....
perhaps next year though..

Completely understand that! Between buying two heads last year and now an overhaul, I've got that strain as well. You are correct, though. Hard not to buy something when one goes thereMark wrote:sidekicker wrote:Yep... sounds like 'tis the one. I would love to visit that store where I bought my 14K Williams head back in October, had a COA done, and have subsequently spent hundreds on sheet music.
Was supposed to go to Addison on a business trip last year, but got someone else to go in my place. Does anyone know how far Addison is from Plano? Maybe next time I'll volunteer ... LOL
Spoke to one of the worker bee ladies at that store and she said she loves her Straub pads but said they were very delicate ... e.g. no pulling of cigarette paper out from sticky pads, just depress key, release, then remove the paper. I'm rough on my pads (just had 3 replaced during COA that were installed 3 years ago) so maybe Straubs aren't for me either.

I too have been warned about the delicate aspect. The tech I was talking to at the Flute Society of Kentucky Annual Conferance [ the next one is only 3 days away!!!!!] last year made a comment in relation to removing plugs. He said that if you push the plug through, it is quite possible that you could unseat the pad, and it wouldnt seal properly. So, the plugs have to be pulled out rather than pushed out [ regarding silicone or o-ring type plugs]. But, seeing as how I dont ever use plugs, I wont be worrying about that.

Well, before I made my final decision I was able to play on two brand new instruments, each with Straubs on them. Everybody is right; it is a very strange noise to try and describe. The only place I noticed it was on the F key on one of the flutes. Strangely, though, the other flute (also with Straubs) had no noise whatsoever to it. That told me that Straubs can be in some cases a hit or miss thing with regard to that noise (which really sounds to me more like someone really slapping the key hard; so if you are a natural key slapper to begin with, it seems logical that the Straub sound will be enhanced), and I was unwilling to take the risk. So I went with what I'm used to (traditionals) this time and next overhaul time will re-evaluate.
Am now looking forward to getting my newly refurbished flute back

I finally understand what people mean by the little clicking noise. This morning I noticed a pad that I thought was sticky on my new miyazawa [ with Straubs], and no matter how I went about cleaning it, it still made an odd sticky/ clicking sound...... but, it is only one key, and otherwise the pads work really well. So, there isnt anything I can really do without having it replaced [but that would risk wasting money and having the new pad 'click']. So, even though it is annoying, I have a pretty light touch, and it doesnt 'click' all of the time....
But, I still stand by what I said before. I like these pads on every flute I have tried them on, but it probably is hit or miss whether they will make a noise or not.
