Yamaha YFL-774H

Post by FluteNut »

Greetings! Does anyone here have a 774H? I'm considering getting that model (but haven't played one yet), and I'd like to hear any and all opinions about that model and/or Yamaha flutes in general. Is it worth the extra money over the 674H?

Thanks

I recently spent a great deal of time with a Yamaha rep who allowed me to play flutes from every line that Yamaha makes. In my opinion, yes, there is a great deal of difference from the 600 to the 700 flutes, both in sound and response. I also noticed a great difference in the 600 heavy wall flutes and the standard wall flutes. It all depends on what you are wanting in a flute. I would not even consider any flute if I had not played it. They are all very different, especially when you look into the higher end flutes.

Personally, I am not so sure that a 700 Yamaha would be the best investment for your money. This I say while considering that you can get a handmade flute (Muramatsu EX comes to mind at under $3000) for the same amount or even less money. In general, handmade flutes are better investments. Just something to think about.
