Hi - I am going to buy a flute which I would like to last for a long time. (I haven't played in 27 years!) After reading lots of info and suggestions, I am thinking that rather than get the intermediate Yamaha 461 which has the same headjoint (CY) as the student models and costs almost $1600, then for a little more, I might as well get a professional Yamaha with the EC headjoint, which is supposed to be better and easier to play.
So now I am looking into the Yamaha 574 (silver headjoint) and 674 (all silver). The problem is that there probably isn't anyone in Florida who would have one in their store to try out. I did get to try a 461 and 361
with the CY headjoint which I liked a lot - I could hit all the high notes and low notes.
Is there a big difference in playing with the Yamaha EC headjoint as opposed to the CY headjoint? Is it the sound or ease of playing?
If I already like the CY headjoint, would that necessarily mean that I would probably like the EC headjoint, or is it likely that I may totally dislike the EC headjoint? Just wondering if I should go ahead and order the EC, with the reasoning that if I liked the CY that I would like the EC.
Thanks,
Karen
