Piccolo Advice

Post by tfjjmc »

I am considering buying a new composite piccolo. In the next couple days I am going to the Music store and going to test the Roy Seaman Storm and the Pearl 105. I'm curious if anyone has played either of these instruments and what your opinion is?

To be honest I just started playing the piccolo again after a 15 year break. I have an old (purchased new in 94) Artley metal piccolo from my Marching Band days that I just got back from having new pads put on and adjusted and quite honestly the intonation is horrific on the upper registers. Granted my Piccolo chops aren't what they once were but even with rolling out and adjusting I can't get it even close. I am also going to have another Piccolo player try it out and see if she has better luck. Granted even if I could get the intonation in check the tone is still more shrill than I like. I have considered a wood Piccolo but I live in a humid area with drastic temperature changes and I don't want to have to stress about it cracking.

Feel free to suggest other models that I haven't mentioned. Those are just the ones my local music store has that I can try soon.
