I recently bought a new, fully silver flute
and its amazing, but I''m looking to save up for another headjoint, not that
I''m not happy with mine, I''d just like to get one that can change my
sound. I''m looking for something with gold, if the lip plate was just gold
plated would that make much difference or would the lip plate have to be solid
gold. I know this would be getting expensive but I want to go to the Queensland
Conservatorium of Music when I leave school so I put all my time and money into
my flute playing, what do you think would be the best?

This is a very personal choice. Ideally you
should try out as many as you can and decide which one fits you best. If I would
be buying a headjoint, I would probably go for a Lafin
(http://www.lafinheadjoints.com). A few great flute players that I know (Danilo
Lozano, James Newton, Boglarka Kiss) all play them. A lot of places that sell
headjoints only will let you try them out for a certain period without having to
buy them (www.fluteworld.com might do that too, you need to check with them).
You could take a few and see which one fits you best (gold versus gold-plated
lip plate does make a difference because it is a different material that
vibrates - you should try both, maybe you like the sound of silver better?).

Headjoints - Damjan, help!
Hi Damjan, I had a talk to my friend, well
actually email, lol, and they liked sankyo, so now its up to me, I didn't get
to see my flute teacher today so I'll see her on Tuesday and see what she
thinks. What do you think of Brannen headjoints, I know they can get a bit
pricey but I would rather wait a bit longer and get exactly what I want than buy
one on impulse because of what it looks like. If you have any other suggestions
on headjoints please let me know, also I'll go into shops because it would be
too much hassle sending headjoints from fluteworld.com to Australia, thanks
again! [8)]

Sankyo is a nice flute (I currently play on
a Sankyo Silversonic). I don't know much about Brennan headjoints so I would
rather not say anything. Try out different ones and see what you like. As I said
before, headjoint is really a very personal thing. Good luck with finding what
you want.

Headjoints - Damjan, help!
Dear Tara, I may have some suggestions about
headjoints that you might like thinking about. i've heard mixed things about
brannen headjoints. i know lots of people that own brannen flutes and they
rarely keep the brannen headjoint for the flute. i personally have tried out
several brannen headjoints, and like any company there are multiple options to
look at and consider. most of the options of course have to do with materials
and the like. the biggest difference i have found in trying out lots of
different headjoints is the chimney which is the piece that connects that lip
plate to the tube. for such a small piece, it can make a lot of difference. for
any company (along the lines of brannen) it comes in silver, different gold
karats, and platinum. also, the tubing makes a difference, and obviously the
gold and platinum are much more expensive than silver. my main suggestion is
never forget the chimney. if a flute has a gold lip plate it does not
necessarily mean that the chimney is gold as well. my own thoughts are that if
the lip plate is just gold and nothing else, it's not going to make a huge
difference. i play a nagahara flute and LOVE it, and you may want to look at
their website because they sell headjoints individually as well and are around
the same price range as brannens. their website is www.nagaharaflutes.com. if
you're interested you can read up on their information on headjoints. good
luck!
