Haynes Q1 vs Resona 200

Post by wall flood »

Hi All
So I have these 2 instruments on trial from a great flute seller and craftsman.

After play testing (and falling in love) a Miyazawa 102 I've found I love the Burkart - Resona head joint. Even though its not their premium head its has a lot of potential.

I like the Resona and I like the fact the head joint is made in the USA, that the body is made and cut in the USA (according to the guy I spoke with on the phone) although its assembled in China as well as the keys being made there.

The issue I have with this flute is a cost:of 3200 for a foreign assembled body and keys. I don't get why they just didnt make it locally. It couldnt be THAT expensive (I'd pay more for that).

It also has pits and other little finish problems that I think a premier company shouldn't overlook.

The Haynes Q1 does not impress me at all. Its entirety made in China but they told me the embouchure hole is cut locally. Looking at the hole its irregular which to me is a fail

For 3000+ dollars I'd expect more.

I'm confused by these flutes. Considering these two make such good flutes you'd think they'd be able to make a QUALITY entry level flute like Muramatsu, Miyazawa, Altus, or Sankyo does.

So I don't get it, or why anyone would buy these at this price point when handmade, quality instruments are offered by other companies

I'm beginning to think the way to go might be a used YFL or Pearl body, and a good used American head joint from Brannen or Powell.
